My Friends and I Have a Birthday Tradition

Now that we are in our thirties, my friends and I have scaled back on our birthday celebrations. We used to go out to bars and party all night long. Now, when we get together, we like to relax at home. We actually enjoy talking over a bottle of wine instead of shouting in a crowded bar. So, now we get each other birthday wine gift baskets and get together to share them. The wine baskets are great. Even better is spending time with our friends. Now that we’re all working and starting families, we don’t get together as much as we did in college. Since we started our new tradition, no one has missed a birthday party yet. Spouses are invited, but the rule is you have to get a babysitter if you have kids. I love my friends’ kids, but they don’t work too well with a quiet evening of chatting!
